TMI Tuesday: School Days

For many areas of the world, this time of year is graduation time at formal institutions of learning. Thus, it is a good time for us to think back about our own education.

School Days

Below is a list of academic fields of study. For as many of these disciplines as possible, share a memory. It could be something that happened in class, an Aha! moment, something about the teacher or something that was helpful later in life.

Thanks to virtualsin.wordpress.com for this week’s TMI Tuesday theme.

1. English – I didn’t take a standard English class. I took a year of The Comedies of Shakespeare and three years of drama. I had a little thing for my blonde-haired, blue-eyed teacher, as did all the other hetero girls and perhaps a few of the not-so-hetero boys, I’m sure.
2. History N/A
3. Foreign Language (French, Spanish, Latin…) I took two years of German. I loathed it. The thing I remember most about this was that the fella who sat behind me had a massive crush on me. We remained friends into adulthood. He told me some years later that he nearly didn’t attend my wedding because he was “still in love” with me and couldn’t bear to see me marry someone else.
4. Psychology – I loved psych. I took two years worth, all that my school offered at the time. The thing I remember most is my psych teacher refused to excuse me for being absent on senior skip day. I had a genuine family commitment that happened to fall on senior skip day. He didn’t believe me and, though I urged him to, refused to call my parents.
5. Mathematics … we won’t talk about Math
6. Physics N/A
7. Chemistry N/A
8. Biology  I’m sure I took some form of biology though I don’t remember doing so. I don’t even remember the infamous frog dissection that everyone talks so much about.
9. Gym I despised PE. Ninety percent of it was hell on wheels. I enjoyed the tennis portion because if you didn’t have a partner, and I never did, you could go solo on the paddle ball court. That was awesome.

Bonus: Did you have sex education class in school? What grade or age did you have this class? Thinking back on the sex education class what was the most surprising thing you learned? Was this class helpful to you in your sex life?
We didn’t have it. We had a generic health class. We did the useless carry around an egg for the semester as if it is your child thing, which would have been enlightening if the egg had screamed all night and gone through 12-14 diapers a day. Eggs also don’t require their own luggage every time you go anywhere. They don’t have to be fed and clothed. Neither do they require a qualified babysitter. Though I’m sure there’s some sort of fetish out there – I was never worried that my egg would be molested if I didn’t do a thorough background check on a caregiver.
