If I were to come to your home…
1. And look in your refrigerator what would I see?
The usual: Milk, eggs, ingredients for the week’s meals, beverages on the door. Perhaps the oddest thing would be the medicinal bottle of grain alcohol.
2. And open your front room closet or hall closet, what would I see?
Coats, jackets, my set of personal tools that don’t get used without my permission, wrapping paper, the ironing board, the vacuum
3. And open the top left drawer of your dresser, what would I see?
Top left dresser drawer is watches and daily jewelry. The only valuable jewelry I own is always on my body.
4. And go to your bedroom and look under the bed, what would I see?
Dust, I’m guessing. Perhaps an errant sock, though that’s highly unlikely.
5. And look under your basement stairs, what would I find?
There is nothing under my basement stairs. They are adjacent to the furnace. Storing anything there would be an unnecessary fire hazard. I don’t allow it.
Bonus: When visiting other people’s homes and using the bathroom–friends, relatives, parties–do you look in their medicine chest?
Absolutely not. This is an unconscionable violation of trust, to say nothing of incredibly rude. It is also why I will never own a house without two bathrooms: One for guests and one for the members of the household.
